Congratulations, Eran.  After many years as a satisfied Vistage member, when I left, they chose to turn my good experience upside down.  I hope your verdict prompts them to implement change, but from my experience with their executive office, I would bet against it.  My experience found no integrity, or concern, or appreciation for their members. As a business owner who has built a substantial enterprise foundationally based on  relationships, I was appalled at their mentality, so I am glad you got their attention.  We’ll see.

Congratulations! I always thought your case was a slam dunk, and I am glad the courts agreed with you. Do you have a case against Vistage, or does the fact that the chairs are contractors effectively protect them?

I have not been in Vistage for about two years now. I left primarily for business financial reasons. Our group had an issue with a chair who invested in a member’s business without our knowledge, and we voted him out of Vistage. In another case, a chair combined our group with another she ran without fully clearing it with the other group. In that case, the entire other group left Vistage and firmed their own independent group! Not good, but nothing as bad as your case!

I agree with your belief that should Vistage fail to meet their responsibility for the overarching confidentiality of their programs they will have violated the contracts they hold with all Vistage members.

All Vistage members are first attracted through the primary protection of confidentiality.

It’s the Vistage pitch – they present it, they must be held accountable.

I haven’t followed your lawsuit and I have only read your high level emails.  I do feel that even though the Chairs are listed as independent contractors, and they are closely part of Vistage.  I haven’t been active as a Vistage member for about 2 years after 6 years, but I still am an active speaker.

I have recently left Vistage after 9 years but will share this with my former chair, who I am close with.

Without a doubt, I agree that the Vistage Organization should have some sort of accountability and responsibility as a result of this verdict.

I am appalled that Vistage didn’t help you in the first place and further by the lack of caring that I have seen when I try to share this with Vistage members and chairs that I know.  I stopped being a Vistage member a bit over a year ago.  I intended to go back within the year I had to do so without an initiation.  The problem you had and more importantly the lack of support from Vistage regarding confidentiality made me change my mind.  I also no longer recommend Vistage and, in fact, warn against it.  I think most chairs are fine upstanding people and follow the code, but since the organization can no longer be trusted to vet the chairs for suitability, ethics, integrity and experience they have lost my support.

I was approached about joining by a friend…but I didn’t.

From day one the thought of other business people knowing

Things about my business scarred the ..you know what out of me.

My issues related to a very poor chair that didn’t fulfill his duties regarding one on one meetings, and all he wanted to do is discuss his business issues with me, rather than supporting my issues.  My membership spanned over three years plus and during that time, I think I had a one on one meeting 2-3 times.  According to the standard practices, this was to be once per month.  In addition, I think I paid a higher fee per month to receive that one on one consulting.  He was distracted, uninspiring, one dimensional, not creative and in my opinion a poor business person.  Not to mention he failed miserably as a chair.  Our group disbanded over a three month or so period of time.  I was the second to leave.

I completely agree. My chairperson was a fantastic guy and real mentor and I know he was one of a kind and never would have these issues. Vistage management is greedy. I’ve had my own personal billing issues with them and its the reason I could never go back. I doubt they will step up here. But I’m glad you did the right thing and took care of this.
